Have you ever watched a show that makes your heart race just by sitting on the couch? That is exactly how I felt when I discovered the Korean series Bloodhounds on Netflix. I watched the first season last year. To be honest, I absolutely loved it. The action scenes were so amazing and realistic.

This show is not just about fighting. It is a story about two young boxers who become best friends. They have to face some very bad people to protect their families. It is a wild ride from the very first episode. If you like stories about loyalty and justice, you need to read this.

The Story Starts with a Punch

The show takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many small businesses in Korea were struggling at that time. This is where we meet Gun-woo. He is a young boxer with a heart of gold. He works hard to help his mother, who owns a small cafe.

Sadly, his mother falls into a trap. She takes a loan from a group called Smile Capital. They look like helpful people at first. But they are actually ruthless loan sharks. They trick her into a contract she cannot pay back.

When she cannot pay, the thugs come to destroy her cafe. Gun-woo tries to fight them off using his boxing skills. He is very strong, but there are too many of them. The leader of the gang, Kim Myeong-gil, even scars Gun-woo’s face. This is where the real trouble begins.

An Unlikely Bromance

One of the best things about Bloodhounds is the friendship. The story kicks off with a massive boxing match between Gun-woo and Woo-jin. Gun-woo wins the fight, but something better happens afterward. They realize they both served in the Marines, and that shared history turns them into instant brothers. It is this “bromance” that carries the whole show.

Woo-jin is a bit more talkative and funny compared to the quiet Gun-woo. Their chemistry is what makes the show feel human. When Gun-woo’s mother gets into trouble, Woo-jin does not hesitate to help. They decide to work together to pay off the debt and get revenge.

The Good Moneylender

To get the money, the two boys start working for Mr. Choi. He is a very interesting character. Mr. Choi used to be a big player in the loan world. Now, he is a kind man who helps people for free. He gives loans with 0% interest to those in need.

Mr. Choi has a foster daughter named Hyeon-ju. She is tough and knows how to fight. The two boxers are hired to be her bodyguards. Together, these four people form a small team to stop the evil Smile Capital. It is like a “good versus evil” battle in the dark streets of the city.

Brutal and Fast Action

I have to talk about the action again because it was incredible. Most action shows use guns or fancy gadgets. In Bloodhounds, it is mostly about fists. Since Gun-woo and Woo-jin are boxers, their fighting style is very specific. They use footwork and quick punches to take down much bigger guys.

The camera work during these fights is excellent. You can feel every hit. It is not just “movie fighting” where people fly around. It feels heavy and painful. Sometimes the violence is a bit intense, but it fits the story perfectly. You really want to see the bad guys get what they deserve.

Facing a Monster

The main villain, Kim Myeong-gil, is truly scary. He is played by Park Sung-woong, who is a great actor. Myeong-gil does not care about anyone but himself. He uses the pandemic to rob desperate people of everything they have.

Kim Myeong-gil even blackmails rich and powerful people to grow his empire. He wants to build a giant casino and rule the city. Our two heroes are just kids compared to his huge organization. Watching them try to find a way to beat him is very stressful but exciting.

A Sad Turn of Events

As the story goes on, things get very dark. The team manages to hurt Myeong-gil’s business, but he strikes back. I won’t spoil everything, but some very sad things happen to the characters we love.

The villains attack their home and kill people who were like family to them. Gun-woo and Woo-jin are left bloodied and alone. For a moment, it looks like the bad guys have won. This part of the show is very emotional. It makes you root for the boys even more.

The Training and The Finale

After the tragedy, the two friends don’t give up. They go away to the countryside to train even harder, lift weights, run on the beach, and perfect their boxing, become stronger than ever before.

They also find an unlikely ally in a rich man named Min-beom. He was also a victim of Myeong-gil’s blackmail. With his help, they come up with a clever plan to trap the loan shark. The final showdown is a massive fight that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Why You Should Watch It

If you haven’t seen Bloodhounds yet, you are missing out. It is a short series with only eight episodes in the first season. You can easily finish it in a weekend. The story is simple to follow, but it has a lot of heart.

The main message is about how friendship can help you survive the worst times. It shows that even when life is very unfair, good people can still win if they stay together. The actors did a fantastic job, especially the two leads who clearly trained very hard for their roles.

I really enjoyed every minute of Season 1. It was one of the best action shows I saw last year. I have already watched Season 2, which came out recently. But I will save those details for my next blog post. For now, go watch Season 1 and tell me what you think!

That’s it for now.
