Why Did PM Modi Choose February 5 for His Holy Dip?

Prime Minister Modi’s choice of February 5 for his visit holds both political and spiritual significance.

  • Political Significance: The visit coincides with the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, which are being held today. The elections are crucial for the BJP, as they have not been in power in Delhi for over 25 years.
  • Spiritual Significance: February 5 marks Magh Ashtami, an important day in the Hindu calendar for devotion and charity. It also aligns with Gupt Navratri, a significant period for spiritual practices. Additionally, it is Bhishma Ashtami, the day when Bhishma Pitamah, a key figure in the Mahabharata, waited for the Sun’s transition into Uttarayan before leaving his mortal body.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s Visit to Maha Kumbh

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam today. He urged people not to politicize the religious event and emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines. Sharing a video on social media platform X, he wrote, “Maha Kumbh comes once in 144 years, i.e., once in many generations. No one should do politics on such a historic religious moment. I am fortunate to have taken a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam. Please follow all guidelines, as the number of people attending this Kumbh is unprecedented. #Mahakumbh”

Significance of Triveni Sangam

Triveni Sangam is the sacred confluence of three rivers – the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Hindus believe that taking a dip at the Sangam washes away sins and grants liberation from the cycle of rebirth. During the Maha Kumbh, this belief holds even greater spiritual value due to the celestial alignment of planets.

Over 45 crore devotees are expected to attend Maha Kumbh 2025, making it a historic event for India. Since the festival began, more than 140 million people have taken the holy dip, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.

With PM Modi’s visit, Maha Kumbh 2025 has gained even more prominence, reinforcing India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage on a global stage.
