Vaibhav Suryavanshi: The Youngest Player in IPL Auction History

Vaibhav Suryavanshi The Youngest Player in IPL Auction History

On November 25, 2024, Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, UAE. The 13-year-old cricketer from Samastipur, Bihar, became the youngest player to be signed in the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals secured him for ₹1.1 crore after a heated bidding war with Mumbai Indians.

A Record-Breaking Journey

Vaibhav’s rise to fame is remarkable. He made his Ranji Trophy debut during the 2023-24 season against Mumbai at just 12 years and 284 days old. This achievement made him the youngest player in Ranji history, surpassing Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 15. Vaibhav’s talent was further highlighted during a Youth Test series against Australia, where he scored 104 runs off 62 balls. At 13 years and 188 days, he became the youngest centurion in competitive cricket’s 170-year history.

Controversy Over His Age

Despite his achievements, Vaibhav faced questions about his age. Allegations surfaced that he is actually 15, not 13 years old. His father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, addressed the concerns, stating that Vaibhav had undergone a BCCI bone test at 8 and is willing to take another test. He expressed confidence in his son’s achievements and commitment to the sport, saying, “We don’t fear anyone. He can undergo another age test if needed.”

Early Signs of Greatness

Vaibhav’s talent was evident from a young age. He excelled at U-16 district trials when he was only 8 years old. His father recalled their early struggles, traveling to Samastipur daily for cricket coaching. Vaibhav’s hard work paid off when Rajasthan Royals invited him for trials in Nagpur. Batting coach Vikram Rathour set up a match scenario where Vaibhav needed to score 17 runs in one over. He smashed three sixes, impressing everyone by hitting eight sixes and four fours during the trials.

Setting Records

Vaibhav holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian at the youth level. He scored a blistering 100 off just 58 balls, second only to England’s Moeen Ali, who did it in 56 balls. His rapid rise has drawn comparisons to cricket legends, yet Vaibhav continues to focus on improving his game.

A Bright Future Ahead

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey from Samastipur to the IPL auction is inspiring. He has already made history as the youngest player to be signed, and his story is just beginning. Whether facing criticism or breaking records, Vaibhav remains focused on his dreams. His journey is a testament to hard work, talent, and resilience, making him a name to watch in the future of Indian cricket.

This young prodigy has not only captured the attention of cricket fans but also set a new benchmark for aspiring cricketers worldwide.
