In a historic shift, The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards occurred on a Tuesday, specifically on September 12th, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Shakira was announced as the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on August 28, making her the first South American artist to receive this prestigious honor.
