Sag Harbor, NY — June 19, 2024 — Pop star and actor Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday in Sag Harbor, New York, for driving while intoxicated, according to reports by The Associated Press, ABC News, and CNN.
Incident and Arrest
The arrest occurred in the upscale Hamptons village, a favored summer retreat for affluent New Yorkers. Timberlake appeared in court later that day and was arraigned on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was subsequently released without bail.
Timberlake was driving a 2025 BMW when officers observed him running a stop sign at Madison Street and Jermain Avenue around 12:37 a.m. The arresting officer also noted Timberlake’s failure to maintain his lane of travel, prompting the traffic stop.
Upon pulling him over, officers detected signs of intoxication, including bloodshot and glassy eyes, as well as a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. Timberlake reportedly performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests. He admitted to consuming one martini and claimed he was following friends home.

Legal Proceedings
Timberlake refused to undergo a breathalyzer test three times, stating, “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.” Refusal of such tests can be used as evidence of guilt in court and may lead to driving privileges being revoked. After processing at the Sag Harbor Village Police Department, Timberlake spent the night in custody before his arraignment at 9:30 a.m. at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court. He was released pending a virtual court appearance scheduled for July 26. His attorney, Edward Burke Jr., affirmed plans to vigorously defend him, currently in discussions with the district attorney’s office.
Local Reaction
The incident sparked conversation among Sag Harbor residents, expressing disappointment and concern over Timberlake’s actions. “No one’s infallible, but I’m disappointed that he would get behind the wheel and drive in this little town and not worry about the consequences,” said Audrey Goodrich of Bridgehampton. Another resident, Sam Pezz, added, “In today’s day and age, with technology and Uber, and especially someone like Justin with unlimited resources, there’s no excuse to get behind the wheel.”
Upcoming Tour Dates
Justin Timberlake, 43, is currently on his “Forget Tomorrow” World Tour, promoting his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was, released in March. His latest album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The tour, his first in nearly six years, includes upcoming shows at Chicago’s United Center and New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
