Gujarat Couple Gets Married at Police Station

A wedding in Surat Gujarat took an unexpected turn when a dispute over food led to the ceremony being stopped. The groom’s family refused to proceed, but local police ensured the marriage took place in an unusual setting.

Argument Over Food Leads to Wedding Cancellation

Anjali Kumari and Rahul Pramod Mahto, both from Bihar, were ready to exchange vows at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Hall in Surat’s Varachha area. However, an argument broke out between their families over an alleged food shortage at the venue.

The disagreement escalated quickly. The groom’s family, unhappy with the situation, decided to call off the wedding, despite Rahul’s willingness to go ahead. This left Anjali and her family shocked and distressed.

With no other option, Anjali’s family approached the Varachha police station for help. The officers immediately intervened and summoned the groom’s family to resolve the issue. However, the groom’s relatives refused to change their decision.

Police Arrange Wedding at Station

Realizing that the situation could worsen, the police came up with a unique solution. Instead of sending the couple back to the venue, they arranged for the wedding to take place at the station itself.

At 4:30 AM on February 3, the couple exchanged garlands at the police station, making their marriage official. Officers acted as witnesses and supported the couple through the process.

Police Step In to Prevent Further Disputes

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alok Kumar confirmed the incident. He explained that most rituals had already been completed before the dispute started. Only the exchange of garlands was left when the disagreement over food led to the groom’s family refusing to continue.

“The woman said Rahul was ready to proceed, but his family refused. Since there was a risk of another argument at the wedding hall, we allowed them to complete the rituals here,” said DCP Kumar.

Ensuring a Positive Outcome

The police played a crucial role in preventing further conflict and ensuring the couple’s marriage was not ruined. “We adopted a positive attitude and helped them get married,” said DCP Kumar.

Despite the unexpected circumstances, Anjali and Rahul left the police station as husband and wife, proving that love can overcome even the most unusual challenges.
