Devendra Fadnavis has taken charge as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister for the third time, fulfilling his 2019 promise, “Mi Punha Ye-in” (I will be back). Despite challenges and criticism, he has proven his resilience and leadership once again.
From Small Beginnings to Big Achievements
Devendra Fadnavis started his political career as a corporator in Nagpur. At 27, he became the youngest mayor of the city. Through hard work and dedication, he rose through BJP’s ranks, gaining recognition for his leadership abilities.
In 1989, Fadnavis joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the RSS. This early involvement built the foundation for his political success.

Rising as a Key Leader in BJP and Maharashtra
Fadnavis emerged as a prominent leader in Maharashtra politics during the 2014 elections. With support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader Amit Shah, he became the state’s Chief Minister. Modi even referred to him as “Nagpur’s gift to the country.”
As Chief Minister, Fadnavis prioritized infrastructure development, gaining support from urban voters. However, he faced challenges, such as farmer protests over loan waivers and the Maratha community’s demand for reservations.
Tough Times After the 2019 Elections
The 2019 elections posed challenges for Fadnavis. The Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, demanded a shared Chief Minister’s post, which the BJP refused. This impasse led Fadnavis to form a short-lived alliance with NCP leader Ajit Pawar, which collapsed in just 72 hours.
Thackeray then formed a government with NCP and Congress support, leaving Fadnavis in the opposition. Despite the setback, he stayed focused and continued to work for his party.
Returning to Power
In 2022, Eknath Shinde’s rebellion in the Shiv Sena shifted Maharashtra’s political landscape. Fadnavis played a key role in the events but accepted the Deputy Chief Minister’s position under Shinde when BJP leadership asked him to do so.
Despite initial reluctance, Fadnavis excelled in his role as Deputy Chief Minister. His efforts and the BJP’s decisive victory in the 2024 assembly elections brought him back as Chief Minister.
A Leader with Integrity
Fadnavis has maintained a clean image throughout his political career. Free from corruption allegations, he stands out in Maharashtra’s political landscape. Known for his clear communication and problem-solving approach, he has effectively tackled complex issues like the irrigation scam under the Congress-NCP government.
Future Plans for Maharashtra
Fadnavis’ political journey reflects his ability to overcome challenges and adapt to changing situations. His leadership focuses on delivering solutions and making strategic decisions.
As he begins his third term, he carries the hopes of Maharashtra’s people and the BJP. With his experience and determination, Fadnavis is poised to lead the state towards progress once again.
