Voting Made Easy: Bihar’s Mobile App Revolution

Bihar Launches India’s First Mobile Voting App

Welcome to theustales.com.

Bihar is breaking new ground in India by letting people vote through a mobile app. On June 27, 2025, State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad announced this exciting step. It started with the municipal elections on June 28, 2025, for six councils in Patna, Rohtas, and East Champaran. This change makes voting easier for those who can’t reach polling stations. Let’s explore how this works and why it matters.

Who Can Vote Using the App?

This new system helps people who face challenges getting to polling booths. Senior citizens, differently abled individuals, pregnant women, and migrant voters can now vote from anywhere. The goal is to make voting accessible to everyone. So, if physical or location issues stop you from voting in person, this app is for you.

How Does the Mobile Voting App Work?

To vote, you need to download the e-SECBHR app, which is currently available only for Android phones. After installing it, link the app to the phone number you used on the electoral roll. Once verified, you’re ready to vote on election day. Don’t have a smartphone? No problem! You can also vote through the Bihar State Election Commission’s website. The process is simple, so even first-time users can manage it easily.

Keeping Voting Safe and Fair

Bihar is using advanced technology to ensure the voting process is secure. The system uses blockchain technology, face recognition, and scanning to prevent tampering. Only two voters can log in from one mobile number, and every vote is checked against voter IDs. This makes the process transparent and fraud-proof. Additionally, an audit trail, similar to the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) used in Electronic Voting Machines, keeps a record of all votes.

Spreading the Word

To let people know about this new system, Bihar ran an awareness campaign from June 10 to June 22, 2025. This helped voters understand how to use the e-SECBHR app. Around 10,000 voters have already signed up, and officials expect 50,000 more to vote online instead of at polling booths. This shows how eager people are to try this new way of voting.

Who Built the App?

The e-SECBHR app was developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). The Bihar State Election Commission also created another app to support this initiative. Together, these apps make voting smooth and accessible for everyone.

What’s Next for Mobile Voting?

This mobile voting system is a pilot project for the municipal elections. Bihar has Assembly elections coming up later in 2025, but it’s not yet clear if the app will be used then. The success of this project will decide if mobile voting becomes a regular feature. If it works well, it could change how elections happen across India.

Why This Matters

Bihar’s mobile voting system is a big step toward making elections inclusive. By using technology like blockchain and face recognition, it ensures votes are safe and valid. For people who can’t travel to polling stations, this is a game-changer. It’s exciting to see Bihar lead the way, and I can’t wait to see how this shapes the future of voting in India.
