Former US President Joe Biden, received tough news recently. On Sunday, his office declared that the 82 year old had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer by doctors. This cancer has spread to his bones, making it a serious challenge.

The Diagnosis and Its Details

Last week, Biden visited a doctor because he had urinary symptoms. Prostate cancer was confirmed on Friday when tests found a prostate nodule. With a Gleason score of 9/10, the cancer is considered high-grade and aggressive.

According to Cancer Research UK, this score suggests the cancer cells may spread quickly. Additionally, the cancer has metastasized to his bones, a common issue in about 60% of advanced prostate cancer cases, per Zero Prostate Cancer. This makes it Stage 4, the most advanced stage.

However, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, so treatments should be able to control it, according to Biden’s office. Biden and his family are currently discussing treatment options with medical professionals. Dr. William Dahut, a prostate cancer expert from the American Cancer Society told, that while bone metastasis makes the cancer incurable, hormonal therapies can slow its growth. Many patients respond well initially and can live for years with this diagnosis.

Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer is a serious health issue that affects about 1 in every 8 men, according to the American Cancer Society. It’s the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men, after skin cancer. The CDC says that getting older increases the risk of getting this disease.

The good news is that if prostate cancer is found early, it can often be treated. However, in President Biden’s case, the cancer was found at a more advanced stage, which shows how tough this illness can be. Still, there’s some hope—since his cancer is hormone-sensitive, doctors can manage it even if it can’t be completely cured.

A Personal Connection to Cancer

In 2015, Biden lost his eldest son, Beau, to brain cancer. Biden has long championed cancer research, leading the “Cancer Moonshot” program in 2016 under President Barack Obama. In 2022, Biden and his wife, Jill, relaunched this initiative to prevent millions of cancer deaths by 2047.

Interestingly, in the same year an old remark resurfaced. Speaking in Massachusetts, Biden mentioned having cancer due to environmental factors in Delaware. The White House later clarified he was referring to skin cancer removed before his presidency. This comment stirred confusion but highlights his long awareness of cancer’s impact.

Support from Across the Political Spectrum

The news brought a rare moment of unity. President Donald Trump, despite past rivalry, expressed sadness on Truth Social. He and Melania sent warm wishes to Jill Biden and the family, hoping for Joe’s speedy recovery. Similarly, Former Vice President Kamala Harris, who served under Biden, shared her support on X. She and her husband, Doug Emhoff, are praying for the Bidens. Harris called Biden a fighter, confident he’ll face this with strength and optimism.

Former President Barack Obama also chimed in on X. He and Michelle are thinking of the Biden family. Obama praised Biden’s work on cancer research, believing he’ll tackle this challenge with resolve and grace. These messages show compassion cutting through political divides.

Controversial Claims and Allegations

Not everyone reacted positively. Laura Loomer, a right-wing activist and strong supporter of Donald Trump, made headlines on X. She claimed that President Biden has been seriously ill since July 2024 and said she had already shared this information a year ago. Loomer suggested Biden might die within two months, calling the announcement a PR move to hide a health cover-up. She even alleged White House physicians faked Biden’s medical records, pointing to late-night doctor visits. Loomer shared a 2022 video of Biden mentioning cancer and another where his brother Frank allegedly called him terminally ill.

Donald Trump Jr. reposted a doctor’s claim on X, suggesting Biden’s cancer should have been caught earlier. The doctor argued that prostate cancer takes years to reach this stage, implying Biden carried the diagnosis during his presidency. Trump Jr. questioned if Jill missed the signs or if it was another cover-up. These accusations paint a picture of distrust in Biden’s inner circle.

Questions About Transparency

Biden’s health has long been a topic of debate. In July 2024, he dropped out of the 2024 presidential race after a poor debate performance against Trump. Many questioned his health and cognitive abilities, leading Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee.

Michael LaRosa, a former press secretary for Jill Biden, spoke on FOX & Friends Weekend about a lack of transparency. He described Biden’s team as “allergic” to openness, even on small matters like dog bites or family events. LaRosa suggested this culture of secrecy could extend to bigger issues, like Biden’s health. The allegations of “elder abuse” against Jill Biden stem from claims she pushed him into public appearances despite knowing he was ill.

Biden’s Recent Life

Since leaving office in January 2025, Biden has kept a low profile. He spoke at a Chicago conference in April for a disability advocacy group. In May, he gave his first post-presidency interview with the BBC, calling his decision to step down “difficult.” On The View that same month, he denied claims of cognitive decline, saying there was no evidence. Now, his diagnosis shifts focus back to his health.

Biden’s journey with prostate cancer is just beginning. His resilience, shaped by personal loss and a career of service, will guide him. The support from leaders like Trump, Harris, and Obama reflects a shared hope for his recovery. Yet, the controversies remind us how health and politics often collide. As Biden and his family plan the next steps, many are wishing him strength to face this fight.
